The Chippewa Valley Brigade

Right around 5 a.m. on July 26th, members of the Chippewa Valley Drum & Bugle Corps began arriving at the UW-Eau Claire Fine Arts Center parking lot, luggage & instruments in hand. After a brief run-through of the music, the bus was loaded – and for the first time in about a quarter-century, an Eau Claire corps took to the road, on the way to an out-of-state performance.

The corps gave two standstill concerts – 6 Flags amusement park, in Gurnee, IL & Navy Pier, in Chicago. Below are some pictures from the trip.

Our first rehearsal was a big success, despite having to make some unexpected adjustments when we arrived at the rehearsal site and found the power had been shut off. For the first few hours at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Fine Arts Center, emergency lighting was all we had to see by, so we made the most of hallways and common areas. Nevertheless, we got a lot of work done on the first two tunes (In the Stone & Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor.) By the end of the day, it was sounding quite impressive!

The next rehearsal is Saturday, June 13th – and there are still a few spots open. Further information can be found here for anyone who is interested. Time is extremely short, however – so with only two more rehearsals, no new members will be accepted after the 13th.

The UW-Eau Claire Blugold Marching Band, in cooperation with the Chippewa Valley Drum & Bugle Corps Association Inc. presents: A summer musical experience for students in the Western Wisconsin/Eastern Minnesota region.

This activity is designed for area students who have an interest in Drum & Bugle Corps, but who aren’t quite ready to commit to a full-time corps schedule this summer. You can give it a “test drive” this summer and see how you like it.

As a member of this group, your time and financial obligations are minimal – but you will have the opportunity to travel with and perform in a highly proficient ensemble of college and advanced high school musicians (approximately 80 members.) Participation includes a weekend trip to Chicago, where you will attend one of this summer’s most high-powered corps shows. You will also perform at Navy Pier, visit Chicago museums, and spend a day at Six Flags Great America.
